Benefit of reading aloud No. 10 Self-Esteem is on Benefit of reading aloud No. 10
Self-Esteem is one of our core life skills and possible one of the most important ones. Self-esteem is your personal sense of self-worth or value. How much you like yourself, regardless of the situation.
As opposed to confidence, which is your belief in yourself and your abilities.
Having high self-esteem isn't arrogance, it's knowing that you're that you have value EVEN when you're wrong or stuff up.
Your value doesn't change just because you're an imperfect human that doesn't know everything - this is big for little ones starting big school.
Reading aloud and asking questions about the books is an amazing way to start teaching kids that their opinion matters, it's ok to be wrong AND it's expected while they are learning. Encourage them to make mistakes in the comfort of their own home, with your love and support, but they enter the classroom surrounded by peers who aren't always nice or have empathy.
If they can learn from you that having an opinion and giving it a go, regardless of what "could happen" is far more rewarding (and recognised by teachers) then a kid sitting on the rug looking like a deer caught in headlights when their teacher asks for their opinion.

Benefits of reading to your kids No. 9 While havi Benefits of reading to your kids No. 9
While having vocabulary is great, but it's really just words until your know how to use them. When you talk to your kids, you're showing them how to communicate.
They will see different communication styles and different types. Examples of miscommunication and misinterpretation. But most importantly CONFLICT RESOLUTION.
Too often kids don't witness the full circle of conflict in a relationship. We try out best "not to fight in front of the kids" but when you do... do they see the resolution process? Not really.
So what's a good way to show our kids the full cycle of having an argument?
You guessed it... BOOKS! Books, books, and more books.
Plus you can have fun with your communication style when reading. Sad moment can have a quiet slow voice and a frowning face. An excited moment can be loud and quick.
You can express all kinds of emotions and importance just by using your voice.

Benefit of reading to your kids No. 8 Teenage Par Benefit of reading to your kids No. 8
Teenage Parents, this one is for you.
Having trouble connecting with your teen? Don't feel like you have anything in common with them? Waiting to open up a situation to discuss a difficult topic?
Give your household common interests and something to talk about. There seems to come a point in your child's teen years that you just don't have any idea what to talk about. You don't seem to have anything in common with your kids! Reading together as a family helps you journey through the world and others’ experiences together while talking about and processing those experiences.
Here's a trick... whoever finishes dinner first reads aloud for 10 minutes. It's the easiest way to "force" your kids into something that's "not" cool because you already have a captive audience.
Give it a few chapters and soon they will be waiting for dinner read alouds.

Benefits of reading aloud to your family No. 7 Th Benefits of reading aloud to your family No. 7
The one prekindergarten skill that matters above all others, because it is the prime predictor of school success or failure, is the child’s vocabulary upon entering school.
Yes, the child goes to school to learn new words, but the words he already knows determine how much of what the teacher says will be understood. And since most instruction for the first four years of school is oral, the child who has the largest vocabulary will understand the most, while the child with the smallest vocabulary will grasp the least.

Mum, this one is for you!
Reading can even relax your body by lowering your heart rate and easing the tension in your muscles. A 2009 study at the University of Sussex found that reading can reduce stress by up to 68%. It works better and faster than other relaxation methods, such as listening to music or drinking a hot cup of tea.
Disconnecting from technology while reading aloud to your child calms your mind. It reduces Stress and Anxiety and is like a reboot for your brain which allows you to be fully present.

Benefit of reading to your kids No. 4 Children ca Benefit of reading to your kids No. 4
Children can listen on a higher language level than they can read, so reading aloud makes complex ideas more accessible and exposes children to vocabulary and language patterns that are not part of everyday speech.
When picking a new book, try one at a level higher than normal to help increase your kid's language development.

Benefits of reading aloud to your kids No. 3 Read Benefits of reading aloud to your kids No. 3
Reading pathways are not hardwired into our brains like speech therefore we must provide information to the brain to create these pathways.
You can literally change the architecture of your kid's brain.
There are four pathways or networks used for reading; language, vision, executive function, attention network. These 4 networks must be developed individually, then the brain must connect these networks together to create the functional reading network.
Pictures books were found to hit the “sweet spot” in child brain development, exciting an optimal balance between the language, visual, imagination, and attention networks in the brain.

A 'million' word gap | Benefits of reading to your A 'million' word gap | Benefits of reading to your kids No. 1
Young children whose parents read them five books a day enter kindergarten having heard about 👉1.4 million more words👈 than kids who were never read 📗 to, a new study found. This 'million word gap' could be one key in explaining differences in vocabulary and reading development.
Throughout daily conversations, children acquire a great deal of vocabulary. However, sharing a book aloud can be a wonderful method for introducing children to new vocabulary words.
By listening to a book higher level then their own, exposes children of all ages to vocabulary, language, and patterns that are not part of everyday speech or read on social media.
Children are exposed to more diverse vocabulary in picture books than in conversation-driven situations in the early years.

Happy Monday! Kicking off the week with a morning Happy Monday! Kicking off the week with a morning out of my "office" 🤣
It's nice to change up the scenery as a #wfhm my biggest weekly venture is to swimming lessons.
I've decided to start my day with a chia latte instead of a coffee because I'm going to try float therapy. I'm excited to see just how restful and relaxing it is.
Anyone tried it before?
