Back in the day, I'm talking 12 years ago, before Back in the day, I'm talking 12 years ago, before "the cloud" existed, I had an Apple. Then we lived overseas and it was the worst phone ever.
I didn't have the computer which the iTunes was set up on so I couldn't update or change anything on my phone.
As soon as we got back to Australia, I ditched the iPhone and never looked back.
There is no way you could ever convince me to get one.

#dadjokesThere is a time and place for dad jokes. #dadjokesThere is a time and place for dad jokes. 😆 Honestly, I'm a huge fan, but 4 am is NOT ONE OF THEM.
Wikipedia says: A dad joke is a short joke, typically a pun, presented as a one-liner or a question and answer, but not a narrative.
Many dad jokes may be considered anti-jokes, deriving humour from an intentionally not funny punchline.
A common type of dad joke goes as follows: A child will say to the father, "I'm hungry," to which the father will reply, "Hi, Hungry, I'm Dad.
While the exact origin of the term dad joke is unknown, a writer for the Gettysburg Times wrote an impassioned defence of the genre in June 1987 under the headline "Don't ban the 'Dad' jokes; preserve and revere them"
Long live the dad joke!
Follow @read.learn.love.books for the occasional dad joke and the incredible magical parental superpower of reading aloud.

In one of my podcast episodes, I joke that my gene In one of my podcast episodes, I joke that my generation, Gen X, spends way too much on therapy each year.
But while it was a "joke", it's only "funny" because it's true. In my family, we didn't talk much about emotions. It's not that my parents didn't care, I just don't think I knew how to express myself when I wasn't ok.
Even now at 43, I think struggle to understand, accept, and express myself when I know it will make me feel vulnerable.
I want to do better for my sons. And with children's books, it's simple. You don't need the words or the right moment. And you definitely don't need to wait until "it happens".
Well-written children's books give us the advantage of helping our children explore their emotions in a safe environment where the spotlight is on the character in the story. Something or someone they can relate to without the pressure of having to feel vulnerable expressing their OWN emotions.
All with a book. And reading aloud. Just one of the many benefits of reading aloud.
In our online children's bookstore, you'll find books aimed at helping with personal and social topics. New titles are being added every day. Click the link in my bio to shop.

Most of the time, well actually always, being a parent is a thankless job. It is also a job where you don't get a lot of consistent feedback on whether or not you're doing it right.
It's also quite possible that the daily feedback you do get from your kids (through their words and actions) might make you feel a bit, well, terrified, demoralised, and hopeless. In fact, if you can hang in there and do the best you can at the moment, for a few years, you might just notice some surprising signs that you are not actually in close competition for the World's Worst Parent title.

Being a mother is fair more than birthing a child. Being a mother is fair more than birthing a child.
Being a mum is in your heart, in your cuddles, in your smiles, in your words, and in your desire to make the people around you happy.
Don't forget to include yourself in your heart, your cuddles, your smiles, your words, and enjoy your happiness.
Always put your mask on first.

Benefits of reading aloud: FOCUS This is a big on Benefits of reading aloud: FOCUS
This is a big one. My almost 4 year old has the focus and attention span of a banana when it comes to getting things done! SO FRUSTRATING
I use our Google Nest had a reminder which tells him to start getting his school shoes 10 minutes before I actually need him to start getting them on. Google has saved my sanity. 🥴
So how can I use reading aloud to help him learn to focus better??
Infants hear the sound of their mum's voice as a beacon of calm, conditioning them to associate her voice and the reading aloud with safety and comfort . As a child grows so will their focus, to exercise and strengthen this ability, the amount of time you can and should spend reading to them in one sitting will increase. From a few minutes for picture books in the beginning to 20 minutes for chapter books.
Follow @read.learn.love.books for more benefits of the magic of reading aloud.

"Everyone should believe in something. I believe I "Everyone should believe in something. I believe I will have another coffee." - Unknown
I never had tea that wasn't fruit flavoured and cold before moving to Australia. It's almost against my heritage to drink warm tea. 😂 I see you Boston.
But I do enjoy tea. Particularly green tea and sleepy time tea.
But if you make me choose... 100% Team Coffee ☕️ I don't actually think it helps wake me up because my fatigue is constant. One of my awesome symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis. BUT I really love the taste of coffee. I'd potentially be able to go decaf.... potentially.
What's your favourite?
Me.... Flat white half sugar please.
